Remember I said Page 12 was “one of the most” emotional pages to write? This is number one.
Lex’s status as an only child was one of the few autobiographical details I indulged in this story. It’s hard to explain to people who have siblings exactly how it feels to leave the nest as an only child. It’s the first experience with the family letting go AND the full and final emptying of the nest, all at once. It’s the breaking of a 3 Amigos situation that has existed without changing literally since the moment you were born.
That being said, lots of us only kiddos do keep a pretty tight relationship with Mom and Dad once we start college. Don’t worry, Lex. They aren’t going to turn your bedroom into a scrapbooking office just yet đŸ˜‰
